… Where else indeed – there is only one Africa.
Motorcycle Safari Tours – A Dream Come True
You don’t do this every day… but what if you could, even for a little while?
… South Africa… it’s different.
Motorcycle enthusiasts line up to experience safari excursions… the word is getting out and it seems everyone wants to visit this corner of the world.
Unleash The Dreams Of Riding The Plains!
Picture this: A motorcycle safari is about to begin:
As the day dawns the morning is fresh and cool… Let’s raise some eyebrows! …
This isn’t just any adventure – it’s a motorcycle-safari-on-the-plains-of-South-Africa!-adventure.
As the riders gather, their adrenaline spikes and the air is vibrant and alive. They put on helmets, goggles, and gloves, and climb onto their bikes…
…and patiently wait for the thrill of the sound of 20 engines starting up simultaneously.
Grrr-vvr-oom … vroom!…vroom!
The roar throbs in their chest and lifts them off the ground.
Everyone wears a wide smile and no one speaks… now everyone is in a mood … let’s go!
The group gets in formation on this deserted highway.
Two marshalls take up the rear and watch for stragglers. They have experience in this remote and wild country. No one must be left behind.
You don’t want to be separated from the group… trust me – you don’t want this to happen. (All about safety on the ride)
A motorcycle safari is as much about the journey as the destination. For those who traverse the plains on two wheels, it’s a delicate dance between themselves and nature.
The talk is loud with excitement at the rest stops. It’s laid back and they took a million photos to capture as much emotion as possible!
On a long and lazy afternoon, they glide through this beautiful scenery. Taking more photos is compulsive; you must get your breath back.
The ride for the day ends weary, and happy, at a fence-enclosed compound. The area is spacious and there is dining under the stars.
You Can Dream About The Accommodation!
Around a firepit, close-call stories are shared and a fabulous braai – barbeque – is prepared. Achingly tired, they yawn like puppies but everyone is in the mood to sleep.
Each couple retires to their hut with king-size beds, mosquito nets, and private spa baths.
In the remoteness of the jungle, every convenience is provided.
There is a rhythm in the air in the jungle – the softness in the night lulls you to sleep.
Yes, there are sounds in the wild, but the world as we know it, is peaceful.
A day on a motorcycle safari tour on the South African plains – doesn’t get any better or more high-end than this.
Explore on a Private Motorcycle Safari!
From the road, the scenery whizzes by in a blur, but further afield there’s a small copse of trees and a quiet little valley.
The remoteness is electrifying and you want to touch it. So why not get your friends together and go on a private off-road safari? … agreed?
But first, answer the question on everyone’s mind: “What is the best way to get into the wild plains from the main road, with as little fuss as possible?”
Get In Touch With The Out-Of-Touch!
Adventure motorcycle riders live for the sweet spot where the open road’s comfort meets the wilderness’s raw edge.
Nothing wrong with that… it’s a dual existence.
The adventure motorcycle is like McGuiver – reliable and versatile, and he delivers what he promises.
This biker leaves the ordinary world behind when he veers onto a dusty trail.
This tangible sense of freedom is deceiving because out here you embrace the unknown.
Be prepared to go a bit wild … we can’t let dirt bikers have all the fun!
The Mean Side Of Off-Road Biking
The peaceful land ends as the trails fade away, and you enter into the private world of the wilderness… at this point, you need to hop onto an off-road dirt bike.
The dirt bike motorcycle is built for the rough stuff.
They’re lean, strong, and have the power to climb up hills, the agility to come down. There is nothing off-road that he can’t do.
You can go far into the interior where it’s deadly quiet … and scary when you see that open plain … you feel like the pioneer you are, it’s tense … not many people can do this.
There is a sense that you are being watched from everywhere … And now you are sure… there really IS a nowhere and you are in the middle of it.
I don’t mean to be over-cautious but think about traveling with a friend in the wilderness. One good reason is that it’s comforting.
Another reason is if you are in the jungle at night – and this should never happen unless you are a trained tracker – you might have to sleep in turns…
Just saying – you’re facing Mother Nature on her turf.
On-road motorcycling may offer the convenience of roadside accommodations, but the wilderness does not … and there are no petrol stations out here.
If you’re looking to get down and dirty and take the road less traveled, either bike option forces you to push your limits and be spontaneous.
To what degree will you use these motorcycle options?
The choice is yours, but the thrill is guaranteed! Ask the experts.
Add South Africa’s Plains To Your Bucket List
In true safari style, there is no end to small herds of wildlife on the plains. They appear non-threatening and benign – unless one should be positioned between a mother and her young.
Please understand – that is the most volatile situation you can be in – you could be a dead man…
Never get between a mother and her young… Never.
In the heart of the plains, the physical terrain begins to vary – the cultural landscape is different, somehow.
There are some small villages in the area and it’s easy to make friends with locals and swap stories about the road.
In the only pub-restaurant-post office, and liquor store, there is talk of a small herd of elephants crossing outside the homestead … this is African-style village life.
We stayed in the area for another day to avoid disturbing their migration… it’s the law.
(Off-road dirt biking on the African plains!)
It Can’t Be Only Fun And Games…
Seasonal weather patterns in South Africa can turn an enjoyable ride into a grueling endurance test. You can be in serious trouble when nature is not on your side.
While sunshine dominates much of the year, the rainy season brings riding challenges. (Celebrating Christmas and fierce storms).
You left home in the heat with high expectations of a nice breezy ride today. But that breeze brought in a cloud… that cloud brought his friends – they were all there.
Thunder, lightning, and wind invited themselves in… and you are on the open plains in the middle of a storm.
What started as a safe and uneventful ride, within minutes has turned the slopes into a slippery and dangerous mess.
Noticing the rain clouds earlier the bikers are led teetering into a natural lean-to.
The lighting and thunder were scary – awe-inspiring and beautiful.
As the storm blew over the mountains revealed themselves. If you go there you’ll stop often for photos – but not after a rain like this…
– let it go – it’ll still be there next week.
The rhythm of the jungle straddles between heart-pumping, nervous excitement, and moments of quiet. The ridges are comforting and eternal – they have always been there.
Welcome to The Plains of South Africa!
Why have the plains of South Africa witnessed a surge in popularity among the motorcycle touring community?
Where else in the world will you find a Table mountain elephant crossing signs best surfing on the best beaches wildlife in every corner of the country eat the most outstanding food drink world-class wines served by the most amazing people at a fabulous exchange rate?
… I dare you, name even one place …
Motorcycles must align seamlessly with nature and show respect for the environment and for the people who live here – it’s key.
Preserving the jungles and plains is a big deal around here and the rules of conservation are very strict in this part of the world.
Why The Huge Interest?
Because of the heat and the large population among tribes, a motorcycle, of any kind, is ideal.
It’s small and easy to park and store, and it’s cheap… it’s a way of life.
And – a way to traverse the wilderness.
Because of the weather … motorcycle tourists come to ride at the best time of the year – when it is winter in the northern hemisphere.
This new interest in motorcycle safaris has had a positive ripple effect across South Africa’s economy. Young entrepreneurs are in the mood to open a small business.
Local shops, from bike repairs and accessories and rentals to roadside cafes, are introducing themselves into the market.
Through social media, these pioneers are strong influencers for South African tourism.
The attractions are outstanding – and those speak for themselves.
You Are High Maintainance…
The thrill of the ride must never come at the expense of the environment.
Everything needs to be in good nick, including yourself. This is not emergency-vehicle country, and there is not a mechanic in sight
Observe:
Read the reviews: You can count on it when a rider tells you about his motorcycle safari under the velvet African sky – he will have a lump in his throat the size of a shot glass.
Fellow motorcyclists develop strong camaraderie among themselves and with the amazing local people. The locals want you here; they are the ones who set your motorcycling safari tour in motion.
It would be a sin not to mention the quality of the food … the food is wonderful!
You will never think of eating under golden arches, ever again.
To Summarize…
1. This is what is known as an extreme vacation. but where on earth would you compare it to? Nowhere really… there is only one Africa.
2. The only road signs in the wilderness should be the tracks of wildlife – it is an insult to the universe to leave trash behind. (Have fun driving in South Africa)
Tread lightly and respect the cultural heritage of the communities. Don’t forget to visit Umtata, in the heart of Transkei – it’s the birthplace of Nelson Mandela.
3. There is a responsibility to being adventuresome. Be prepared for any emergency – there really is no one else around for miles.
4. Maximize your enjoyment of South Africa’s breathtaking beauty. This is the thrill of overcoming bucket list challenges.
5. Choose tour operators that prioritize conservation and good community relations.
Environmental authorities stress that safaris be planned to minimize man’s impact.
6. Take lots of pictures and plan the next adventure.
